I recall sitting at home pondering what I should do… if I should message the Drive Against Depression team and mention that I couldn’t make the drive day because my car needed some maintenance. It sucks because I was looking forward to the drive. It wasn’t worth going for a long-distance drive on some warped rotors – again, part and parcel of the cost of doing performance track days. I could’ve just thrown in the towel – but instead, I reached out to my mate Nathan who had recently acquired a pretty special Porsche.
It was a kill-two-birds-with-one-stone kind of scenario where I wanted to catch up with Nathan and experience the Porsche hype. So I shot him a Facebook message, and we made it happen.
It was a fantastic day. Although cold and slightly damp from the previous night’s rain, the weather made for a brisk morning. It woke you up, that’s for sure. As we made our way to the event and met up with others at the initial starting point, a videographer was there to capture what “Drive Against Depression” is. After an interview (video below) we began our drive-day journey. Eventually, we ended up at a lovely cafe in Williamstown.
Post drive day reflections
Fast forward to the end of the day when I was driving myself home.. All I can say is wow. Porsche really knows how to make a car. The Cayman GTS 4-litre is one hell of a car. From the sound, the balance, fit, finish, and general composure when pushed are just wow. You can see where the premium cost comes in… So, like most car enthusiasts, I immediately hopped onto car sales and started looking at how much one of these beauties cost. One day is what I’ll need to keep striving for, one day.
Huge shout out to the Drive Against Depression family, who organised the cruise along with Nathan for letting me ride shotgun during the event. It was a lovely route and also allowed some spirited driving between stops. I’ll miss these drive days not being in Melbourne anymore, but I look forward to the opportunity to attending more in the future.
